The brief
The artist wanted the collection shown online like a visit to an exhibition, as a campaign piece shared by link rather than a public page.
What I built
I designed and built it: a walkable Three.js gallery with a reception room for the artist's story, halls for large, medium and small formats, and one for collaborations. The paintings load from a data file built from the collection. Visitors walk with the keyboard or an on-screen joystick on phones, jump between halls from a bottom menu, and zoom into each piece.
Features
- Reception room with the artist's story and video
- Halls by format: large, medium, small, plus collaborations
- 53 pieces with title plaques
- On-screen joystick on phones
- Hall menu and zoom
- Ambient audio
Challenges
Problem. Paintings of every size had to hang at a believable scale.
Solution. Each piece is sized from its real proportions within a maximum width and height, then framed with a passepartout and a plaque.
Problem. It had to work on phones, without a keyboard.
Solution. A touch joystick drives movement on mobile, and the hall menu replaces long walks.
Takeaway
One link opens the whole exhibition.
